I am SHAKING with anger.

The guy who compared Obama to Hitler, the guy I’ve known since third grade.

He told me to shut up. Because I was offended, as a Jewish person, by his statement.

Details:

I said: “Do you not understand how offensive that statement is? You can’t just throw up a Hitler comparison and then say “it’s not really offensive” because a) it is and b) there are thousands of charismatic speakers who didn’t live up to their promises that you could have referred to before throwing in Hitler. Also don’t tell me what it “wasn’t offensive.” You aren’t Jewish so you can’t possibly understand HOW it can be offensive.”

He responds: “taylor shut up. you dont know how it feels because you werent alive during the 1940s. you wanna feel oppressed? be the only christian in a class at any school in our district.”

Let’s ignore the fact that Hitler was in power for seven years by the time 1940 rolled around for the moment.

Then he blocked me and deleted my posts.

So I messaged him:

you’re disgusting. you get called out for being an asshole and then block me so you don’t have to deal with me. well here you go, and then i’m deleting you from facebook: You are not Jewish, and you don’t understand how EVERY SINGLE JEW feels a connection to the Holocaust. Anti-semitism has been a constant throughout history, and the Holocaust is symbolic of the extremes of the ignorance and hatred Jews face throughout history. How DARE you tell me to shut up about my SHARED HISTORY. Don’t you dare tell me that you, as a Christian (a majority in the world) can feel anything close to the hatred that I and my PEOPLE have faced for thousands of years. Christians are not even close to being “oppressed.” I don’t have to be directly attacked to be personally connected to attacks perpetrated by others. I don’t get hurt every time I hear Hitler’s name, but saying I don’t have the right to be offended because people make the same bullshit arguments does not make what you said any more justified or even close to okay. This is not political (that’s another story), this is just plain stupidity and ignorance. You can’t say “don’t be offended” when you mention Hitler because you haven’t grown up in the shadow of the attempted extermination of your people.

Here are some of the nice things this kid said:

I said: “what do you mean about the people I “claim” to represent? I AM JEWISH.”

He said:

im pretty sure the nation of israel doesnt want you as a spokesperson

Then he tried to “prove” how I have no right to speak on behalf of my heritage:

i didnt tell you not to speak on behalf of judaism. i just said you truly suck at it

look, can you fuck off now? like, i dont care. i dont have to convince you that i love the jewish faith. i bet you never filled out paperwork to join the IDF, but i have

they wont accept me because im not a jew

And it gets better:

and you cant know what its like to be a christian, to actually have faith that your lord and savior existed on earth

seriously, go to israel. get wasted In Tel-Aviv and pretend that makes you religious somehow.

go see all the rocks and fragments of pottery of a lost world and pretend that makes you spiritual. but once again, you dont know what i feel for this earth. you dont know the heritage i have, and maybe it is jewish.

you think i dont get offended by hitler? the fact that he exists meant i had to hide my true heritage from closed minded fucks like you all through school because you stupid children dont know the difference between german and nazi.

Yes, I’m sure the Christian twenty-something who has German ancestry feels just as offended by Hitler as someone whose people were the subject of his regime’s genocide.

So he does what every person who is losing an argument does.

He resorts to ad hominem:

does someone have to remind you to breathe every once in a while?

Then he tells me to stop messaging him. Because he’s a coward.

The funny thing is the guy calling me dumb and accusing me of being on drugs is the same guy who dropped out of community college and was one of the resident pot heads throughout high school.

So there’s that.
