Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 premiered in London at Trafalgar Square. The weather was implacable, the fans were giddy with anticipation after camping out for days, and the cast made sure the experience was well worth the wait. From one arrival (“The Neville Twins) to the next (“Luna Lovejoy”), they each walked the red carpet and greeted the screaming, crying crowd with autographs and pictures, hugs, and thank yous. And the crowd proved to be just as entertaining, at one point even serenading Alan Rickman with a rousing rendition of “The Mysterious Ticking Noise”.
Then came the speeches. Emma Watson moved us to tears, Rupert Grint made us laugh, Daniel Radcliffe made us remember, and JK Rowling gave one of her most quotable speeches to date. We still carry her now infamous words with us, they’re written on our hearts: “Whether you come back by page or the big screen, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home”. And it’s true. I’ve never felt alone because Harry and his adventures are always with me, and they always will be. Because Hogwarts has never once failed to welcome me home.
Happy One Year Anniversary, Harry Potter fandom, of one of the best days we were able to experience together.
