because HE IS A SERIAL KILLER who uses artificial charm to his advantage
He is a monster.
And I think it is the fault of the way society likes its relatable serial killers (Hannibal, dexter, etc), not necessarily that the shows send that message

my dad would scream if he ever saw this. he’s refused to ever watch this show because he sees it as an insult to the original, which is his favorite show of all time. and i have to say i agree. the intro itself isn’t nearly as well-made or intense or cool as the original.
